National Authority for Remote Sensing Participates in the Activities of the 2021 International Conference on Geographic Information
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received a report submitted by Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi Zahran, President of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, on the Authority's participation in the activities of the 2021 International Geographic Information Conference, which is organized virtually by the Saudi Geographical Society during the period from 29-31 March. Ten Arab and foreign countries participated: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Libya, Morocco, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United States of America.
The report indicated that the conference aims to discuss developments and future trends in geographic information science technologies and applications in various fields.
The report added that the conference includes a number of scientific sessions and workshops, which discuss the role of information systems in assessing natural resource risks, the role of geographic information systems in assessing climate elements and their impact, the integration of information and remote sensing systems in field studies, the role of geographic information systems in assessing green cover and its effects on agriculture, the role of information systems in hydrological studies, and the role of information systems in spatial development.
Dr. Zahran emphasized that the Authority's participation in the conference comes within the framework of its mission and vision meant to spread awareness of the culture of remote sensing and space science in the Arab community. He also indicated that the conference is one of the largest conferences on Geographical Information Systems technologies in the Arab world.
On his part, Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dossary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society, and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, commended the important role of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences in stimulating creativity and promoting scientific excellence and knowledge in society in various scientific and cultural fields.
On the sidelines of the conference activities, a workshop will be held by the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences in cooperation with Ain Shams University entitled "Upgrading human capacities in the field of remote sensing and geographic information systems". The workshop will be attended by a number of the authority and university scientists.
