Minister of Higher Education discusses mechanisms of scientific cooperation with the American University in Cairo
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received yesterday evening, Dr. Ahmed Dalal, President of the American University in Cairo, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Hamza, Advisor to the Egyptian Government at the University, and Dr. Ehab Abdel Rahman, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the University, at the Ministry's headquarters.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister praised the cooperation with the American University in Cairo in the service of the Egyptian society and its educational system since its establishment in Egypt in 1919, which is one of the models of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the United States of America, as well as cooperation between the American University and Egyptian universities in joint scientific research and various educational activities, stressing the depth of Egyptian-American relations, especially in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed that Egypt is witnessing a qualitative leap in the educational service provided, as we have a clear vision for higher education to reach global competitiveness, through the development of university academic programs in accordance with international systems, explaining the efforts made to raise the status of Egyptian universities in the global rankings of universities, as well as expanding the establishment of new universities throughout the Republic, as well as interest in technological education, opening branches of international universities in Egypt, in addition to expanding the establishment of new private universities.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry and the American University in Cairo to build the capacity of faculty members in Egyptian universities, especially in the field of creativity and innovation in a way that contributes to keeping pace with the requirements of the local and global labor market, and providing the necessary training to qualify and build the capacities of students and graduates, as well as spreading the culture of creativity and innovation among students; to ensure the implementation of the strategy of higher education and scientific research in accordance with Egypt's Vision (2030) regarding building the professional capacities of students and graduates of Egyptian universities, to qualify them to meet the needs of the labor market. Local, regional and international.
The Minister called for increasing the number of scholarships provided by the American University to students wishing to study at the bachelor's level from public schools, in accordance with the terms and conditions of admission to the university.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Dalal stressed the keenness of the American University to enhance scientific and academic cooperation with the Ministry, by providing distinguished scholarships to outstanding students from all over the Republic, as well as providing high-quality educational opportunities for students, pointing out that the university has sought since its establishment to serve Egypt, through cooperation in the fields of higher education, scientific research and cultural exchange, adding that the American University is in the process of participating in the activities of the Climate Conference (COP27), which Egypt organizes in the Next November in Sharm el-Sheikh.
