The Minister of Higher Education discusses cooperation mechanisms with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization

- Ashour: affirms Egypt's keenness to encourage cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization

 Develop a work map to enhance cooperation between WIPO and Egyptian expertise

Dr.. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met with Mr. Darren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

At the beginning of the meeting, the minister affirmed Egypt's keenness to encourage cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization in the fields of intellectual property, scientific research, science, technology and innovation, and to support entrepreneurs and innovators.

The minister affirmed Egypt's interest in intellectual property, and its keenness to integrate it into its national policy and development strategies, which will be reflected in achieving sustainable development goals and Egypt's Vision 2030, pointing out that knowledge, innovation and scientific research are a fundamental pillar of society and economic development, stressing that Egypt appreciates the efforts made by the organization. WIPO and its commitment to support Member States; to achieve its development goals.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms of cooperation between Egypt and "WIPO" in many activities and projects, and the minister praised the existing cooperation between the organization and the Egyptian Patent Office at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and the support provided by the organization to the office.

The meeting also dealt with drawing up a work map to enhance cooperation between WIPO and Egyptian expertise. To contribute to achieving the goals of the sustainable development strategy and Egypt's Vision 2030.

For his part, Mr. Darren Tang, Director-General of the organization, referred to the efforts of Egypt and the efforts of the Patent Office and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in supporting intellectual property, capacity-building and awareness-raising, praising the cooperation between the academy and the pre-university and university education system in Egypt to support the organization's goals in teaching the foundations of intellectual property, explaining The organization is concerned with the balance between preserving intellectual property rights and supporting development efforts and the knowledge economy in member states, and providing job opportunities for young innovators, especially developing countries.

The two sides also discussed enhancing aspects of cooperation and partnership between the two sides, where the Director-General of the organization stressed the importance of Egypt as a role model in the region, referring to his visit and his accompanying delegation to Ain Shams University, and praising the university's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support Center (I Hub), which is considered a link Strong and effective between the field of education, training and academic research on the one hand, and the field of industry, services and businessmen on the other hand, by supporting the idea of entrepreneurship and encouraging innovators among university students, and providing a platform that absorbs the energies of young people, discovering their talents, refining them, nurturing and directing them in the right path that serves the goals national development.

During the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, in continuous and fruitful cooperation with the organization in various activities and projects, including: (The National Intellectual Property Academy project in Egypt, the intellectual property education project for youth and teachers in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, as well as joint training programs and distance learning programs, and the development and digitization of the Egyptian Patent Office at the Academy of Scientific Research.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Hassan Kulaib, Deputy Director General of WIPO and Head of the Regional and National Development Sector at WIPO, Ms. Sherine Grace, Senior Program Officer of the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector of the Organization, Prof. Dina Ibrahim, officials of the regional and national development sector programmes, and from the Egyptian side, Prof. Nermin Hassan Abu Jazia, CEO and member of the Board of Directors of the Al-Alfi Foundation for Human and Social Development.
